Customizing your Domain Name
.
Would you like to have a customized domain name for your website? The first step is to purchase a domain name with an online hosting company.

Note: Some of you may have a domain name from a previous website; in this case you can skip the step of purchasing the domain name.  Go to the step of changing the name server information.

Complete the steps below to customize your domain name:

Below are the steps to follow in order to fully integrate a customized domain name into your website.  The last two steps will need to be followed by the site administrator.  You will want to be sure that your browser is not blocking pop-ups as this is very important to the success of the last two steps.

1. The first step is to purchase a domain name.  If you have already purchased your domain name, skip this step.  A domain name is the "www.yoursite.org" that you put into the address field of your browser. There are many companies with whom you can obtain and register your domain name. Some popular ones are: godaddy.com, networksolutions.com, and register.com.

2.  For step two you will need to supply Name Server information to the company that you pay for your domain name (from step 1). This information is then automatically given to a "domain name server" (DNS).  A name server is a server that directs visitors using your domain name to the computer where your web site is running on.  The name server information for your web site is as follows:

For Churches: ns1.adventistchurchconnect.com and ns2.adventistchurchconnect.com
For Schools: ns1.adventistschoolconnect.com and ns2.adventistschoolconnect.com.

3.  Next have your site administrator click on Admin Management.  When the page refreshes, click on theEmail & Server Configuration link.  A new browser window will open (it will look different) with a titlecPanel.  You will see a number of icons; click on Parked Domains. It is under the heading titled Domains. Enter your new domain name in the box labeled Add Domain and click the Add Domain button.  Don't forget to click the LOGOUT icon in the upper right hand corner of the cPanel page.

Note 1:
Do not include the "www" or "http://" in the "New Domain Name" box.
Note 2:  Do not remove any Parked Domain names.
Note 3:  It may take up to 48 hours for Name Server information changes to take effect. This means that you may not be able to type your new domain name in the address bar of your browser and bring up the website until 48 hours after completing these steps. It is okay to check though.

4. The last and final step is as important as all the other steps.    Have your site administrator (this may be you) log into your website and click on Admin Management.  When the page refreshes, click on the Site Configuration & Navigation link.  On the Main tab, locate the box labeled Domain alias(es) .  Enter your church's new domain name in this box and click the green Save and Exit button located at the bottom of the page.
